The restoration, which was started at the beginning of 1987, included the plumbing of the long walls of the buttresses. They were dismounted and re-assembled, enhancing its stability by increasing its thickness with some internal walls made of concrete.
In one area of the interior space, a hole was left to accommodate an unsightly transformer that is attached to the bridge and located on the left bank, which eventually could not be moved. A new floor similar to the old one was built, with some longitudinal and transverse bands of granite slabs forming squares filled with boulders of quartzite on their sides (paving from medieval tradition in Ourense,) and some new parapets made of stone were placed.
