This is a Roman bridge has only one reconstructed vault dating from the Lower Middle Ages, erected across the river which gave its name, in the edge of the Ourensian municipalities of San Xoán de Río and Pobra de Trives.
It was erected to provide access to the Roman road no. 18 of the Itinerarium Antonini, which linked Braga to Astorga. This road was used until the construction of the national road N-120 from Logroño to Vigo was finished, in the second half of the 19th century. From the Roman times, it still preserves most of the original supports and channeling walls uprivers.
The medieval arch has a span of 18,15 meters with a low ridge. The road has a medium width of 3,90 m between the exterior walls of parapets and a maximum height of 14,00 meters.
